ALUMNI features Chad Douglas for part one of the ALUMNI SS23 lookbook. Chad Douglas is a Flatbush, Brooklyn native and a professional BMX rider. His approach to BMX is to keep it clean and tight, as opposed to the common approach of sweaty and gritty. Using his bike, Chad collaborates with filmmakers, photographers and brands in the lifestyle and fashion spaces to tell visual stories.
Outside of BMX, Chad is an active member of his home neighborhood of Flatbush as well as the neighborhoods of Chinatown, LES, and SoHo. Chad promotes positive initiatives such as wellness and mental health awareness through organizing community events and group rides.
Currently, Chad is working on THE LAUNCH, a community event that
provides a BMX experience to neighborhoods without skateparks by
wheeling in obstacles. THE LAUNCH aims to remind us of our inner child
by offering similar BMX experiences to the ones Chad had as a child.
Growing up, there weren't any skateparks in his neighborhood, so Chad
had to be creative and ride whatever was available to him - curb cuts,
plywood on cinder blocks, and the street. Chad hopes to bring that
resourceful, playful and enjoyable experience as well.
For New Yorkers, Coney Island symbolizes the optimism for the warm and activity-filled summers of New York. It's only natural for ALUMNI to feature one of the most iconic summer destinations in our home borough. We've worked with photographer Ryuta Hironaga on capturing a beautiful afternoon at Coney Island. Ryuta Hironaga is a Brooklyn based photographer from Kumamoto, Japan.
Collaboration with the leaders, creatives, and visionaries of our communities is the driving force behind ALUMNI. Shout out Chad Douglas and Ryuta Hironaga for working with us on our 2023 Spring/Summer lookbook.
